Hair Basics | Silicones
Hey my hair loving besties! I am back with another fun topic to discuss with all of you yay! So, through research and my own hair transformation I came across something called ‘silicones’ you find these in many different hair products! Did you know there are good and bad silicones but some can be harmful? No? it’s fine we are all here on a learning journey, I’ve been there and now I’m here to help all my besties!
So this may be a long one but continue reading to learn more and improve your hair drastically…. I mean who wouldn’t want to improve their hair right?
Let me explain what silicones are and how you can identify them.
Silicones are derived from ‘silica’, you can recognize if your hair products contain silicones if they end in ‘cone’ or ‘siloxane’. How cool right? Well let me explain further some of the ingredients to look out for are:
- Amodimethicone
- Cyclomethicone
- Cyclohexasiloxane
- Dimethicone
- Phenyl Trimethicone
So many difficult and confusing ingredients right? but do ensure to check your hair products and save your locks from harm!
Now besties your probably wondering but what do silicones actually do… look no further let me help!
Firstly, silicones don’t penetrate the hair but they just coat your hair which means they make your hair:
- Softer and smoother
- Easier to style
- Seal in split ends
- Smooth out the hair cuticle so your hair becomes shinier
- Protects hair from heat caused by a blow dryer or other styling tools.
But silicones can have reverse effects on your hair and in reality have a negative impact… how? Let me explain! Silicones can:
- Block other nourishing ingredients from penetrating deep into the hair follicle…. Shock!
- Cause buildup which leads the hair to breakage…how horrifying! It doesn’t end there they also give your hair a dull appearance, and lead to hair-loss.. and we don’t need that as that will hinder our hair transformation!
I bet some of my hair loving besties will be wondering I have been using these for a while… what do I do now! don’t worry I will teach you how to get rid of hair build up from silicones which can TRANSFORM you hair and you will be closer to achieving more healthy, luscious locks!
Now, read carefully…
Step 1: Shampoo with surfactants / a clarifying shampoo once per 2 weeks.
Step 2: Deep condition without silicones! This is because shampoos with surfactants that are clarifying can be very harsh on your hair!
There you peepz, you can achieve healthy hair even with using silicones…how amazing!
Any who thank you for all your support and taking your time to read! I hope you enjoy reading as much as I love writing and helping each and every one of you! YAY to many more hair transformations, remember consistency is key and we will get there together! Thumbs up for more hair help! That’s all for today! See you soon, lots of love Afsennah.
