Consultation Questions
Hair density is the number of hair strands in a square inch of your scalp. It is different from hair thickness, which is about how wide each hair strand is.
Hair Density: Low, Medium, and High
Determining Your Hair Density:
To determine your hair density, try this simple test:
Part your hair in the middle and observe your scalp in natural light.
Low Density: Scalp is easily visible.
Low density hair has fewer strands per square inch, making the scalp more visible, especially when parted. It may appear thin and lack volume, and while it can be fine, medium, or coarse in texture, it still has fewer strands overall.
Medium Density: Scalp is somewhat visible but not prominent.
Medium density hair has an average number of strands per square inch, making the scalp less visible when parted. It appears full but not overly thick, can easily hold styles, and has a natural volume.
High Density: Scalp is barely visible.
High density hair has many strands per square inch, making the scalp barely visible even when parted. It appears very full and thick and can be fine, medium, or coarse in texture but has a lot of strands overall.
To determine your hair elasticity you need to start with clean, wet hair.
First, section your hair for easier handling.
Take a small, wet hair section and gently pull/stretch it.
Good elasticity: Hair stretches and returns without breaking.
High elasticity: Hair stretches a lot before returning, so you keep on stretching.
Low elasticity: Hair breaks quickly without much stretching.
To identify your hair porosity, review the characteristics below and see which best matches your hair:
Low Porosity Hair: If your hair takes more than 8 hours to dry naturally, does not easily release moisture once absorbed, and usually feels smooth without bumps, you likely have low porosity hair. This type typically isn't dyed, doesn't use heat styling, and hasn't undergone chemical treatments.
Medium Porosity Hair: If your hair dries naturally within 4-8 hours, balances moisture absorption and retention well, and feels smooth with cuticles lying flat but not too tight, you probably have medium porosity hair. This type can be dyed up to 2 shades darker or lighter than the natural color, occasionally uses heat (around once a month), and might have used chemical treatments, but not within the last year.
High Porosity Hair: If your hair dries naturally within 0-4 hours, absorbs and releases moisture quickly, and often feels bumpy due to raised or damaged cuticles, you likely have high porosity hair. This type is often dyed more than 2 shades darker or lighter than the natural color, uses heat styling weekly (such as blow dryers, flat irons, and curling irons), and might have undergone chemical treatments more than once a year.
Hair structure refers to the natural shape or pattern of your hair strands. Here are the four main types:
Straight Hair: Smooth and lies flat from the roots to the ends. It tends to be shiny because the natural oils can easily travel down the hair shaft.
Wavy Hair: Has a slight curl or wave pattern that forms an "S" shape. It can vary from loose, gentle waves to more defined waves.
Curly Hair: Distinct curls that form spirals or ringlets. The curls can range from loose and bouncy to tight and springy.
Coily Hair: Very tight curls or kinks that can form zig-zag patterns. It often looks dense and can be prone to dryness due to the tight curls preventing natural oils from evenly distributing.
Hair texture refers to the thickness of individual hair strands and comes in three types: fine, medium, and coarse.
Fine Hair: Very thin strands that feel soft and silky but can appear limp and lack volume. It's more delicate and prone to breakage.
Medium Hair: Average thickness, feels smooth, and generally looks fuller. It holds styles well and has a natural bounce.
Coarse Hair: Thick strands that feel rougher and appear very full. It's strong and resistant to damage but can be prone to frizz and dryness.
Your scalp condition depends on multiple factors. Below are the most important characteristics for each scalp condition:
Normal (Balanced) Scalp: Produces a healthy amount of oil, keeping your hair and scalp moisturized. There are no signs of flakiness, dryness, or excessive oiliness.
Dry Scalp: Produces less oil, leading to tightness, flakiness, and itchiness.
Sensitive Scalp: Easily irritated by hair products, environmental factors, or weather changes.
Oily Scalp: Produces excess sebum, making your scalp greasy.
Irritated Scalp: Experiences redness, itching, and soreness.
Dandruff/Flaky Scalp: Large, white or yellow flakes on your scalp.
Psoriasis: Red, scaly patches on the scalp that may bleed when scratched.
All About Hair & More
The results of a hair journey differ from person to person. Most will see differences within 4 weeks when using the product consistently and correctly. It’s also important that everybody has their own starting point and their own goals they want to achieve. If you haven’t seen improved hair growth after 6 months, please send an e-mail, and I will dive deeper into it (it’s important to have before and after pictures!).
It’s strongly recommended to use the Hair & Scalp Roller in combination with the Custom Hair Growth Solution.
Your hair started falling out because of a certain deficiency. When your hair grows back because of The Custom Hair Growth Solution, it means it needs the nutrients. The frequent application for the Hair Growth Solution is 2x a week, but when you have achieved what you want, you can apply the Hair Growth Solution 1x per 2 weeks.
For the Custom Hair Care Solution, you will need to continue using it to maintain the results.
All the Custom Hair Oils are made from scratch. Since it’s custom, there is no one ingredients list. There are some ingredients that I use as a base like Coconut, Olive, Castor, Argan, Cactus, Jojoba, Fenugreek, and Nigella. There are like 99 other ingredients that I blend with it to make it work for your specific hair (you will get the ingredient list with your order).
When you want to dye your hair (and you don’t dye your hair on a regular basis), please keep in mind that your hair needs can change. This can mean that your hair needs other ingredients than before. This is mainly for the Custom Hair Care Solution rather than the Custom Hair Growth Solution.
If you do dye your hair on a regular basis, your hair is already used to it, and the ingredients will still be effective for your hair!
No, it should not have any side effects, because we also ask for your allergies before making the custom hair oils. It is strongly recommended to first apply a tiny amount on the back of your elbow to see how your skin reacts (just for prevention).
There are two Custom Hair Oils:
- Custom Hair Growth Solution: If you want hair growth, thicker hair, and/or regrow hair.
- Custom Hair Care Solution: If you want luscious healthy hair, it’s meant for the hair length.
Note: To get the most out of your hair transformation journey, it is strongly recommended to order the Custom Hair Care Oil, Custom Hair Growth Oil, and Hair & Scalp Roller (and also the Silk Pillowcase if you don’t have one!).
Care
The main difference between the Custom Growth Solution and Custom Care Solution is that the Custom Growth Solution is applied on the scalp and is specifically formulated to promote hair growth, (re)grow bald patches, balance the scalp from common issues like seborrheic dermatitis, dandruff, psoriasis, and strengthen hair from the roots.
On the other hand, the Custom Care Solution is applied to the lengths of the hair, aiming to strengthen it, prevent breakage, thinning, and split ends. It also serves as a UV and heat protector, adding a natural shine to the hair.
Yes, you can! Our all-natural custom oils are personalized to meet your unique hair and scalp requirements, making them suitable for use by anyone, including pregnant or breastfeeding individuals. Afsennah has special formulations that exclude certain ingredients unsuitable for use during pregnancy.
The custom oils are tailored to each individual based on the results of their online consultation, which is carefully reviewed by Afsennah to determine the most suitable formulation. It is important to note any allergies in the online consultation, as this information is important when formulating your custom oils.
It is not possible to resubmit an online consultation as Afsennah will examine your outcomes and formulate the custom oils within 24 hours.
It is crucial to ensure that you provide accurate answers while filling out the online consultation. If you are uncertain about what to answer, please do not hesitate to seek additional assistance from customerservice@afsennah.com before submitting your responses.
In order to see results from the treatment, it is important to use it consistently for 2-3 sessions per week, spanning over a period of at least 3-6 months. During the initial stages, it is normal to experience some hair loss as weaker hair follicles detach and DHT is eliminated, but this makes way for new and healthier hair growth.
Yes, all of our products are also effective for men.
For best results, we highly recommend using the treatment 2-3 times per week. Once the desired results are achieved, the product can be used once a week for maintenance.
We're delighted to learn that you're satisfied with the custom oils you received. If your hair and scalp condition remains unchanged and you desire the same formulation as your previous order, there's no need to complete the online consultation once more. To receive the same formulation, all you need to do is send us an email with your previous order number (the one you were happy with) and your new order number, requesting the same formulation. We'll ensure that you receive the same formulation again.
If the answers provided on the online consultations are not the same, then as a result, the formulation of the custom oils is different as well.
The formulation of our custom oils is determined based on the results of your online consultation. We take pride in using only 100% raw natural ingredients in our formulations, and we never dilute our oils. We also avoid the use of ingredients such as silicones and sulfates. Our products are also CG-friendly, meaning they are suitable for those following the Curly Girl Method.
Growth
The online consultation is exclusively accessible for customers who purchase a custom oil, as Afsennah requires additional information about your hair and scalp to select the appropriate formulation.

Experiencing an itchy sensation when using the treatment is normal and to be expected. The itchiness means the hair follicles are getting activated and DHT is being pushed out (which is a good sign!).

It is of utmost importance to prevent any product buildup from accumulating on the scalp when using the scalp roller and/or the custom growth solution. Product buildup can lead to blocked hair follicles, potential infections, and hinder the penetration of the custom growth solution into the follicles. As a result, the hair follicles will not receive the necessary nutrients from the solution, rendering the treatment ineffective.
To ensure optimal results, it is essential to maintain a clean scalp while allowing for the presence of natural oils. Prior to treatment, please ensure to remove any excess oil by gently dabbing it.

The Custom Hair Growth Solution is designed specifically as a scalp treatment and should only be applied to the scalp. If you wish to apply oil to the lengths of your hair, we recommend using the Custom Care Solution, which is formulated as a hair oil.

Scalp Roller
The scalp roller is a tool that aids in creating small punctures on the scalp, facilitating better absorption of the custom growth solution. However, we strongly advise against using the scalp roller alone, as it can lead to open pores and potential infections. To achieve the desired results, it is crucial to follow up with a suitable scalp oil, such as Custom Growth Solution, after using the scalp roller.

If you experience flakes after using the scalp roller, it may indicate that your scalp is too dry. We highly recommend temporarily pausing the use of the scalp roller and focusing on using the Custom Growth Solution to restore balance to your scalp.
Typically, within 2-3 weeks of using the Custom Growth Solution, your scalp should reach a more balanced state. Once your scalp is balanced, you can resume using the scalp roller as part of your haircare routine. Taking this approach will help ensure that your scalp and hair receive the care they need for optimal health and results.
Experiencing a tingly sensation when using the scalp roller is normal and to be expected. As you continue to use it regularly, your scalp will become accustomed to the sensation. It is important to note that the scalp roller should only be used once a week to avoid overstimulation.

For optimal performance, it is recommended to replace the roller every 3 months. As the needles lose their sharpness over time, using a roller with dull needles becomes ineffective in making micro penetrations in the outer layer of your skin.
Before using the microneedle scalp roller, disinfect the roller with alcohol. You can either spray alcohol on the roller or dip it in an alcohol solution. After disinfecting, rinse the roller with warm water. You can watch the video on our social media platform.
